Dear donors,

here the latest information on the state of relief efforts - the second consignment has already arrived, now follow the updates from days 7 and 8.

Your generous donations have already had a great impact. This was only possible thanks to our partners Ram and Ramesh Tamang from NHEFoN and the many, many helpers in Kathmandu. We will keep at it! Our partner organisation in Switzerland, NB&G, is also contributing to the support for NHEFoN.

Day 7 - September 3rd, 2026

Today, another group of refugees arrived at Mustang Gompa near Swayambhu. They were received there by the monks in a monastery. The distribution, accommodation and care of the refugees are being coordinated by the government.

This group of refugees fled the floodwaters from a small village near the Tibetan border. With nothing - but, thank God, with their lives.

NHEFoN was asked to take care that these people would receive clothing. A second NGO is looking after the medical support in this camp. A third NGO is in charge of providing food for the people.

What Has Been Done with Your Donations in the Last Few Days?

At NHEFoN’s central distribution centre, countless, tireless helpers compiled a shopping list based on the data of the people in need, including clothing and shoe sizes.

Ram, Ramesh Tamang and other helpers from NHEFoN then purchased the required clothing in Kathmandu. Clothing and shoes were packed for each individual refugee and prepared for transport until late at night.

This shall ensure that everyone receives what he of she actually can use. Thus a useless distribution of materials is prevented. And also very important to us: the purchasing power stays in Nepal.

Day 8 - September 4th, 2026

Today, the clothing was brought to the camp and distributed according to need.

Photography in the camp is prohibited for understandable reasons. This is the explicit wish of the refugees.

We admire the clear structures of cooperation that the government and aid organisations have established in such a short time.

What Will Happen Next?

In the next step, starting from tomorrow, two NHEFoN staff members will work together with the military and the government in the crisis area to identify what longer-term support is needed to enable people to return to their region in the coming months and years.

Where concrete approaches are identified, we will work together with other NGOs to fund and implement smaller-scale sub-projects. These could include, for example, temporary shelter, the renewal of water pipes, or the restoration of agricultural land.

Goal of the next step, then, is to enable a long-term return of the people to their home region.

Dear supporters, you can see that a great deal of patience and financial support is still needed to alleviate the worst consequences of this disaster.

We are overwhelmed by the generosity you have shown and by your solidarity with the people of Nepal in their time of need. And we hope that so devastating impacts of climate change may at least contribute a little to the recognition of the gravity of the situation and to the move into actuall action.
