Gecotec e.V. was founded 1997 by Rolf C. Buschmann, Prof.Aux. UCLV, in Freiburg. Originally, the focus was on ecological technologies and knowledge transfer within the framework of international co-operation. Meawhile, the association concentrates primarily on projects in the Himalayan region of Nepal - in close cooperation with the local partner organisation NHEFoN Nepal, the Swiss organisation Nepal Bildung & Gesundheit e.V. and DESWOS e.V. in Germany.
The current focus is on building and equipping small health centres - especially maternity and infirmary wards - in remote mountain villages. In addition, Gecotec e.V. supports local education initiatives, for example through school sponsorships, training grants and student loans. A health project for prevention and education is also part of the long-term commitment.
All projects follow the principle of helping people to help themselves: the aim is to help create structures that work in the long term without external support - supported by the local people, in the spirit of a sustainable partnership.
