Dear donors,

we thank you from the bottom of our hearts!

€36,000.00 in direct aid for Nepal have already been deployed by Gecotec e.V. and NHEFoN.

The immediate crisis has been eased. Yet the pain of losing family members and one’s homeland, the uncertainty as to whether there are any survivors left and where people might find a new home in the future – we cannot even begin to imagine any of this.

We are deeply impressed by the strength with which the people and the Nepalese Government have coped during the first terrible weeks following the disaster. Young people in particular are demonstrating what is possible when it matters most: helping in a disciplined and persistent manner, working together during this terrible time – and, despite everything, not losing their cheerfulness and hope.

It is only in this way that our aid centre has been able to help hundreds of those affected since August 26th, 2026. Just two days after the disaster, the first aid consignment could be delivered to the crisis area.

Help That Delivers

From the very beginning, our aim has been to provide tailored aid that is geared towards people’s actual needs. Thanks to your donations, the necessary relief supplies could be purchased locally, put together and distributed to those affected.

Word of the special structure of the NHEFoN distribution centre soon spread. Other smaller organisations and private donors also joined in and supported NHEFoN and the many dedicated helpers.

Close coordination with the experts on the ground was of crucial importance. They were able to tell us quickly and precisely what was actually needed - and just as important: what was not needed.

What Will Happen Next?

The acute phase of direct aid can now be brought to a close.

The approximately 3,500 people affected are now safely accommodated in camps. They have been supplied with food for at least three months. Temporary toilets, tents, mattresses, blankets, household items and clothing are available. Medical care is being provided, and the first children have already resumed their lessons.

But Nepal still urgently needs our support.

In the next stage, the Nepalese Government, together with the local population, will plan where people can find their new homes in future and how these should be designed. When this next phase begins, Gecotec and NHEFoN will once again engage in the process.

Responsibility Across Borders

Nepal, one of the poorest countries in the world and at the same time a geopolitically and geographically highly vulnerable country in the Himalayas, will continue to depend on the support of the international community in the future.

At the same time, we must seriously consider how such disasters can be better predicted in future and how people can at least be warned in time. However, all of these measures can only help in the long term if the causes of disasters intensified by climate change are finally taken seriously by everyone.

Nepal does not bear the responsibility for the failings of the industrialised and consumer countries of this world.

Finally, I am to pass on very warm greetings to you all from Ram and his entire team. They had not expected such great solidarity and willingness to help.

We will continue to keep you informed in the coming weeks.
