Gope water project - here we go!

Construction of a new sanitary building and water pipe in our partner school in Gope, Solukhumbu
Dear sponsors and supporters,

with a slight delay, but full of enthusiasm, our team started work on the construction site in Gope a few days ago - and things are really progressing!

The monsoon left its mark again this year and severely damaged the already challenging off-road routes to Gope. However, as always, our experienced team found its way to the remote mountain region south of Everest.

The team around Ram Kumar Tamang has been working together since 2015 and brings a lot of experience with them - and despite all the challenges, there is never a shortage of fun at work!

Building sustainably, moving forward together

The building is being constructed using sustainable and earthquake-proof construction methods. Building materials that are still usable are being reused and the quarry stones required come directly from the surrounding area. Naturally, the villagers are also actively involved in the work.

As is so often the case in the region, the building site is a challenge: full of boulders and difficult to work on. But thanks to heavy excavators, which are essential for maintaining the difficult off-road tracks, we are making good progress. These machines are often supplied by China.

The foundation walls are being built

A few days later, the work has visibly progressed: The steel structures for the walls are in place and the foundation walls of the new building can gradually be recognised. Another reason to be happy: the weather has been cooperative so far, allowing our team to make rapid progress.

Health, hygiene and more human dignity for 400 children

The new building replaces a destroyed building and will provide around 400 children in the Thulung Dhudkoshi Rural Municipality with a much-needed improvement in terms of health, hygiene and also human dignity. Clean toilets and functioning sanitary facilities are a decisive step towards a better future for the schoolchildren.

A small but special highlight: on Ram’s birthday, a new baby was born in our clinic in Gope.

A big thank you!

It was only thanks to your generous donations and the excellent cooperation with our partners in Nepal that we were able to start this project within just six months.

We will of course keep you informed about the progress.

Kind regards, Namaste,
