The wait is over!

Start of construction of our birth and health centre

Dear sponsors and supporters,

let’s go!

Today we are delighted to be able to tell you about the start of construction of our fourth birth and health centre in Kimalung, Nepal.

Where is the birth and health centre being built?
Location:

Province No. 1 Eastern Nepal (14 districts).
Bhojapur District
Kimalung Municipality - This includes 16 dispersed villages.
Location of the health centre: Baidar village

Departure from Kathmandu

The pickup truck is loaded in Kathmandu on time on November 25th, 2023 and our crew is getting ready for the next adventure. The journey takes between 15 and 17 hours, mostly off-road. Due to the monsoon, the gravel roads are only passable from November to mid-May. The boys already are a well-rehearsed team and are now going to build the fourth birth and health centre together.

The surroundings - a dream

A wonderful place, despite of many existential problems. We don’t romanticise the situation, we also see the poverty, the lack of education and the lack of health care for the population. We can do something about this together. The slogan “poor but happy” is not a truthful measure for a good and just life.

The construction team’s accommodation

The team is staying in the village with a family who had one floor free because the children are living abroad. Rent is of course being paid. Everything is very basic, unheated in winter but with a cooker, good beds and a lounge that also serves as an office.

Here we go!

Preparations of the construction site are picking up speed.

The delivery of materials in particular is always an adventure. Will they make it or won’t they?

Laying the water pipe
Delivery of materials
Further material trips
Such journeys become an adventure and are not always without danger.
And then the excavator rolls in

The great luck is that new gravel roads are being built nearby and we can use the excavator and other heavy equipment from close by.

Dear supporters,

you will find out more about the construction site in January.

Thanks to your persistent support, 100% of the funding for the station was already secured before construction began. This is the only way we can pledge our support to our partners in Nepal in a trustworthy and responsible manner. The district of Bhojapur has also honoured its promise and given written assurance that it will cover the staff and all operating cost of the station in future.

We still need financial support to equip the maternity and treatment room, e.g. with an ultrasonic device, warming bed and delivery bed, sterilisation equipment, hospital beds and much more.

The ward also is to be equipped with a computer so that contact can be maintained with the nearest specialist hospital via the Internet and support can be provided from there via video conferencing in emergencies. This system has already proved very successful in our other wards. It also allows staff to take part in training courses and makes it easier to prepare documentation and medical reports.

We wish you a happy and peaceful Christmas and a blessed New Year 2024.

With best regards!
Namaste.
